Getting a Quote & Booking
What can I expect when I first contact Bathurst Windscreens?
When you first contact us, we will ask for your vehicle’s year, make, model and body shape, such as sedan, hatch, wagon or utility.
Depending on the vehicle, we may also ask:
- Does it have automatic wipers? This helps us determine whether a rain sensor is fitted.
- Does it have Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), such as lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assistance or autonomous emergency braking?
- Is the vehicle petrol or diesel? This can help us determine whether acoustic glass is required.
Modern vehicles can have several windscreen options that look very similar but include different technology. These questions help us identify the correct windscreen and provide an accurate quote.
Don’t worry if you aren’t sure which features your windscreen has. We may ask you to send one photo showing the full windscreen and another showing the top section of the windscreen.
If it suits you better, we may arrange a time for you to bring your vehicle past our workshop so we can inspect the windscreen and accurately identify the glass required.
Once we have confirmed the correct glass, we can provide an accurate quote and explain the work required. If you decide to book with us, we will order the correct windscreen for your vehicle and arrange a suitable appointment.
Do I need an appointment?
Our workshop operates by appointment so we can allocate the correct glass, materials and time for your vehicle.
Every windscreen replacement is different. Some vehicles require additional preparation, curing time, scanning or ADAS calibration. Scheduling each job allows us to give your vehicle the time and attention it requires without rushing the work.
Walk-in enquiries are always welcome when we’re on-site. However, as we sometimes complete scheduled work away from the workshop, we may not always be there when you arrive.
It is always a good idea to call or send us a text message before stopping by. We can let you know when we’ll be at the workshop and arrange a suitable time if you would like us to inspect your windscreen or vehicle-glass damage.
Will I receive confirmation of my appointment?
Yes. Once your appointment has been arranged, we will send you a confirmation text message with:
- the appointment day, date and time;
- our workshop address at Unit 6, 14 Watt Drive, Robin Hill;
- the quoted price; and
- an indication of how long we expect to need your vehicle.
Once your windscreen has been fitted, we will let you know when your vehicle will be ready for collection.
If you need anything or have questions before your appointment, you are always welcome to contact us.
Do you offer mobile service?
Yes, mobile service may be available depending on your vehicle, the work required and your location.
A mobile service fee applies and varies depending on the location. When enquiring about mobile service, please let us know where the vehicle is located so we can check availability and advise the applicable fee.
Some vehicles or types of vehicle-glass work need to be completed at our workshop. If this applies to your vehicle, we will let you know and discuss the most suitable option with you.
Windscreen Replacement
How long does a windscreen replacement take?
The time required for a windscreen replacement can vary depending on the vehicle and the work involved.
A standard windscreen replacement at our workshop usually takes approximately three hours. This allows time to remove the damaged windscreen, prepare the vehicle, fit the new glass and allow for the required safe drive-away time before collection.
If your vehicle is equipped with an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), we may need it for up to the full day. This allows time for the windscreen replacement, vehicle scanning and the required ADAS calibration.
Some vehicles or replacements may require a different amount of time. If this applies to your vehicle, we will discuss it with you when arranging your appointment so you know what to expect.
Once your windscreen has been fitted, we will let you know what time your vehicle will be ready for collection.
Why does my vehicle need to remain at the workshop after the windscreen has been fitted?
After a windscreen has been fitted, the adhesive requires a minimum amount of time before the vehicle can be driven safely. This is known as the safe drive-away time.
We keep your vehicle at our workshop while this time passes. Once your windscreen has been fitted, we will let you know what time your vehicle will be ready for collection.
We will also explain any simple aftercare instructions you need to follow when you collect your vehicle.
How do I look after my new windscreen after replacement?
Once your new windscreen has been fitted, a little care during the first day will help protect the new installation.
Here are a few simple things to remember:
🚗 Safe drive-away time
When your windscreen is replaced at our workshop, we will let you know when your vehicle is ready for collection. The collection time already includes the required safe drive-away time.
For a mobile replacement, the vehicle must remain stationary and not be driven for at least 1.5 hours after installation.
🚪 Close the doors gently
For the rest of the day, avoid slamming the vehicle’s doors. Closing them gently helps minimise unnecessary pressure inside the vehicle while the adhesive continues to cure.
Opening a window slightly before closing the door can also help.
💦 Wait before washing your vehicle
That new-windscreen feeling may make you want to wash your vehicle and give it the full fresh treatment!
Please avoid automatic car washes and pressure washing around the windscreen for the first 24 hours.
🟦 What about the tape?
Tape may be used as a precautionary measure following installation. We remove it before collection whenever possible.
If tape has been left on your vehicle following a windscreen replacement, it can be removed within the first 12 hours. Please ensure it is removed by the following day.
If the tape gets wet, begins to lift or starts peeling away sooner, it can be removed.
Any instructions specific to your vehicle will be explained when the work is completed. If you are ever unsure about caring for your new windscreen, please ask—we are always happy to help.
Why does my vehicle need ADAS calibration after a windscreen replacement?
Many modern vehicles are equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, commonly known as ADAS.
These systems can include:
- lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assistance;
- autonomous emergency braking;
- traffic-sign recognition; and
- adaptive cruise control.
In many vehicles, a forward-facing camera mounted near the top of the windscreen plays an important role in how these systems operate.
When the windscreen is replaced, the camera needs to be calibrated to ensure it is correctly aligned and the vehicle’s driver-assistance technology can continue to function as intended.
At Bathurst Windscreens, every ADAS-equipped vehicle is calibrated as part of the windscreen replacement process.
Stone Chip Repairs
Can my stone chip be repaired?
Whether a stone chip can be repaired depends on the type, size, location and condition of the damage, as well as the result the repair is likely to achieve.
When you contact us, we will ask a few questions about the chip. We may also ask you to send us a clear photo or arrange a time for us to inspect it at our workshop.
When suitable, a stone chip repair can strengthen the damaged area and help reduce the likelihood of it spreading. The appearance of the chip may also improve, although a small mark can remain visible.
Once we have assessed the chip, we will explain what we recommend and why, so you can decide how you would like to proceed.
How long does a stone chip repair take?
A stone chip repair usually takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours per chip.
Repairs are completed by appointment so we can allow adequate time for the repair and give your vehicle the attention it deserves.
When arranging your appointment, we will let you know what to expect on the day. Once the repair is complete, we will send you a text message to let you know that your vehicle is ready for collection.
Understanding Your Insurance Cover
Bathurst Windscreens is independently owned and operated. We do not recommend particular insurers or policies.
The following general information is provided to help vehicle owners understand some of the questions worth asking when selecting cover or making a vehicle-glass claim. Every insurer and policy is different, so always check your Product Disclosure Statement and policy schedule or speak directly with your insurer.
What should I consider when choosing insurance for vehicle glass?
When arranging insurance for a new vehicle or renewing an existing policy, it is natural to compare premiums and look for the best value.
It is also worth checking:
- Is windscreen and vehicle-glass damage covered?
- Is excess-free glass cover included or available as an optional extra?
- Are there limits on the number of glass claims you can make?
- Does the policy include choice of repairer?
- Does choice of repairer apply to windscreen and vehicle-glass claims?
Windscreen cover and choice of repairer are not necessarily the same benefit. You may have excess-free glass cover without being able to choose who completes the work.
This is worth considering for any vehicle, particularly as modern windscreens can include cameras, sensors, aerials and heating technology. ADAS-equipped vehicles also require calibration following windscreen replacement.
A lower premium may suit your needs, or having greater choice when you need a repair may matter more. The important thing is to understand what is included and select the cover that is right for you and your vehicle.
The best time to check is before you need to make a claim.
Are windscreen cover and choice of repairer the same thing?
Not necessarily. Windscreen cover and choice of repairer are two different parts of an insurance policy.
Windscreen or vehicle-glass cover relates to whether damage to the glass is covered and whether you will need to pay an excess when making a claim.
Choice of repairer relates to whether you can nominate the business you would like to complete the work or whether your insurer selects the provider.
This means you may have excess-free windscreen cover without having the ability to choose who repairs or replaces the glass.
When taking out or renewing your insurance, it is worth checking that you understand both benefits and whether choice of repairer applies specifically to windscreen and vehicle-glass claims.
Can I nominate Bathurst Windscreens for my insurance claim?
If your policy includes choice of repairer and it applies to windscreen and vehicle-glass claims, you can nominate Bathurst Windscreens to complete the work.
If your policy does not include choice of repairer, you can still ask whether your insurer will consider your nominated repairer. Any approval is at the insurer’s discretion and is not guaranteed.
You will need to contact your insurer directly, lodge the claim and let them know that you would like to use Bathurst Windscreens before a booking is made.
Your insurer will explain the next steps and advise whether it needs a quote or any other information from us.
We cannot lodge the claim on your behalf, but we are happy to provide any information required to help you through the process.
Other Vehicle Glass
Do you replace other vehicle glass?
Yes. As well as windscreens, we replace other vehicle glass, including side windows, rear glass and quarter glass.
When you contact us, please let us know your vehicle’s year, make, model and body shape, along with which piece of glass has been damaged.
Depending on the vehicle, we may also ask whether the glass is clear, green, dark or grey, or whether it has been tinted. These details help us identify the correct replacement glass.
Once we have confirmed the glass required, we can provide an accurate quote and, if you would like to proceed, arrange a suitable appointment for you.
